Our literacy tutors provide one-to-one private tutoring to help children and adults with literacy and the language skills of reading, writing, listening and speaking.

You’re not alone

It is thought that around one in six people in the UK struggles with literacy, however, literacy skills are considered the building blocks of a good education. Research has shown that good literacy skills are associated with higher self-esteem, better health and better job prospects.

For many children and adults, private one-to-one tuition and an individualised approach will be more effective than classroom-based learning for developing literacy skills. Parents with concerns about primary school children keeping up at school are often delighted with the progress their children make following a series of one-to-one tuition sessions. Similarly, children that may be struggling in the classroom at secondary school find that they can keep up with their peers with literacy assistance from a private tutor.

Our literacy tutors can visit students in their own home, at the tutor’s home or another suitable agreed location, and will always strive to provide effective and engaging tuition that is considerate of each individual’s needs. As literacy specialists, our home tutors tailor their approach to each pupil, aiming to create a non-stressful, supportive working environment in which children and adults alike can build confidence and develop at their own pace.

Our literacy tutors can help pupils develop their skills and understanding in all aspects of literacy. Research has shown that the key to developing literacy skills is to make reading an enjoyable experience.  When students read more their writing and spelling improves, their vocabularies become greater and their understanding of grammar improves. Our literacy tutors are committed to finding ways to make reading pleasurable for their students, encouraging wide and student-led reading choices, alongside the completion of varied and interesting exercises, in order to help develop the key literacy skills.
